Little Junior is an unapologetically upbeat alternative power-pop foursome who call Toronto home. The band have named the likes of The Talking Heads, Pixies, Weezer, Buzzcocks, Iggy Pop, and more as their influences. Despite numerous classic influences, their absolute favourite is actually Carly Rae Jepsen, whom they call a “national treasure”. Evidently, pop music has had a profound effect on Little Junior, who have been playing together since middle school. Ultimately, it’s crucial to each member that they create a space for all music fans, regardless of background or identity. “I think it’s important to have a lot of different viewpoints in music,” says frontman Rane Elliott-Armstrong. “I think it’s important we can bring a viewpoint that people who aren’t just like straight people can identify with”. Rane likes to lean further into stereotypes onstage, where he purposefully takes on an exaggerated, more flamboyant persona as a way to ward off any unwanted intolerance. Little Junior’s mix of lo-fi basement punk and cheery sing-along melodies will surely get you jumping and singing along at our beach stage on Friday!
